Idahoans overwhelmingly rejected the push towards increased corporatization of our children’s education when we voted no on the Luna Laws. Unfortunately, corporate profiteers across the country continue to put down our public schools, vilify our local school boards, and bad mouth our children’s teachers in order to push a school privatization agenda that benefits for-profit education companies but does nothing to actually help our kids get a better education.
This study focused on the school privatization push in Milwaukee, WI, but the lessons apply equally to Idaho. As long as there is money to be made by replacing experienced teachers with software and standardized testing, we will continue to see attempts by corporate profiteers to raid the education budget. Idahoans already said no once, but we must be ready to stand up to attacks on our children’s schools when they happen again.
