To be honest, Crapo is right. People from all socioeconomic backgrounds understand Trump’s nativist, misogynistic message.
That message prompted conservative stalwart Charles Krauthammer to rebuke Trump’s overt bigotry, saying the carnival-barker billionaire is running a campaign “…that’s run on know-nothing xenophobia.”
Just to contrast, what does Idaho’s senior Senator say about Donald Trump?
Crapo hasn’t endorsed Trump, but neither has ex-Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, who said Trump was the best GOP presidential candidate because, “He has really said some incredibly great things recently.”
In other words, Trump is talking about the issues in a way that pleases David Duke. Duke’s peers are also pleased. At a recent Trump rally in Alabama an audience member yelled, “white power.”
For clarity sake, what does Idaho’s senior Senator say about Donald Trump?
Even Rand Paul has harsh words for the Trumpster. At a rally last week in Boise — flanked by Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador — the Kentucky Senator said Trump’s opinions were “…blather from some T.V. star.”
Meanwhile, the harshest words Sen. Crapo uses against Trump is that the T.V. star is striking a nerve with the American people.
We realize that Crapo has a primary election coming up next spring and he doesn’t want to alienate the we-hate-immigrants, secede-from-the-union, keep-your-government-hands-off-my-Medicare wing of the Republican Party.
But if he won’t even stand up against the foul messages of Donald Trump, what will he stand up for?
