Last month a racist, homophobic robocall against a Sandpoint mayoral candidate revealed the ugliest side of Idaho politics. Now there are two more calls, both coming days before the Nov. 3 election.

The second call in the obscene trilogy uses racism and xenophobia to argue that mayoral candidate Shelby Rognstad will turn the northern Idaho town into California. (Recording starts at 0:09, poor audio)

The third call says a white police officer will be killed if Shelby is elected.

A group calling itself “Citizens United Against Shelby” claimed responsibility for a similar robocall in early October. However, the group’s sunshine report proved to be fraudulent.

The report has been turned over to the Sandpoint Police.

The latest recordings claim to come from “ordinary citizens of Sandpoint,” and not a political candidate.

Both Rognstad and his opponent Mose Dunkel denounced the call, each saying he had nothing to do with it.
